Determine Which Ordinances Have Already Been Done
The Final Check Using PAF 5.2 and Family Search (IGI)
Always check the International Genealogical Index s before making a temple submission to avoid duplicate ordinances. When ordinance work has been completed for deceased individuals, their records are displayed on the Internet IGI (International Genealogical Index). The Church updates these records daily. You can also use an automated software program called PAFInsight, (See Computer Guide # 8b to see how to use PAFInsight)
Access the IGI

Hints for Manual Searching of the IGI
Use Variants for Searching
Enter only an individual’s name.
Enter only an individual’s name plus the spouse.
Enter only the parents’ names in the right hand side of the pedigree search fields a “Parent Search”
It is usually best to enter the least amount of identifying information possible. If too much information is entered, the search may exclude some names you need.
Variants of a Given Name
Search for variant spellings of the given name. For example, if the name you have recorded is Maryann, search for Mary Ann, Mary Anne, Marianne, and so forth. If known, search for a nickname that is not a common variation of the name, such as Patsy instead of Martha.
Search for the person’s middle name. For example, try searching for Ann instead of Mary Ann.
Variants of a Surname
Search for variant spellings of the surname, such as Wible or Weible or Weibble.
Search for the second part of a compound surname, such as Dyke instead of Van Dyke or Wees instead of DeWees.
Variants of a Date
Search using dates for all of the events you are aware of (birth/christening, marriage, and death/burial dates), and select a broader range of years in the Year Range category. If you choose Other in the Event category, you will be searching for census records, wills, adult christenings, and other miscellaneous records.
Variants of a Location
Search using countries where your ancestor was born, married, and died. Also try searching the World Miscellaneous file (World Misc.). If you do not want to select a specific region of the world, select All Resources during you initial search instead of International Genealogical Index.
Note:
If you find an ancestor in the IGI with different
information, the ordinances are still valid, and you do not need to submit his
or her name for temple ordinances again.
