Step 1: REF 979.2258 A3j Volume 2 Register of Genealogical Society Call Numbers
A. Turn to yellow section 2 page 2-15. In the
European Emigration Card Index, 1849-1925
Film numbers 298,431 through 298,439, find the film number for your ancestor. Films are
listed alphabetically by the last name of
B. In the film find you ancestor name. This index could include the ancestor name, age, birthplace, name and age of any other family member (if emigrating), date of departure, name of ship.
Step 2: REF 979.2258 A3j Volume 2 Register of Genealogical Society Call Numbers
A. Turn to yellow section 2 page 2-15. If your ancestor emigrated from the British Mission find listing for Emigration Registers of British Mission, 1849-1885, 1899-1925 Film numbers 025,690 through 025,695. Find your film number by the date your ancestor emigrated, then find your ancestor name in the film by the date of emigration. When you find your ancestor name, proceed to Step 3.
B. If your ancestor didn't emigrate from the British Mission turn to page 2-16. Find the listing for Emigration Registers of Continental Europe, 1853-1886, 1901-1932 Film number 025,696 through 025,700. Find your film number by the date your ancestor emigrated, then find your ancestor name in the film by the date of emigration. When you find your ancestor, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3: Proceed with the following Film number 1,592,753 item 1 Worldwide LDS Ship Register.
Open this film and find the year your ancestor emigrated by looking up in the top right hand corner. When you find the year, look down the left side until you find the departure date and name of the ship. (This information was found in Step 1.) Proceed across the row and you will find the listing for Port of Departure, LDS Roster Film Number (LDS emigration list), Company Leader, Port of Arrival, Date of Arrival, US Roster Film number (New York, New Orleans, Boston, San Francisco, etc. passenger list) and Hamburg Passenger List.
On the Film number 1,592,753 item 1 Worldwide LDS Ship Register at the bottom of each page there is a section listing where additional information can be found. One source is Film number 1,592,752 item 5 "Mormons On The High Seas." Look at this film.
If your ancestor departed from Hamburg, look at the Resource Guide: The Hamburg Passenger Lists, 1850-1934 for help. Remember, you may be looking at a film with German as the format.
Get the film number listed for the port they arrived at in America. You will find your ancestor by the date of arrival and by the name of the ship. Remember to check the last few pages of the ship passenger list to see if your immigrant was detained.
Check the book 979.2 D27j Genealogical Records of Utah pages 4-126 and 4-130 for additional information on final destination of arrival in America.

Sometimes this information is the same as listed in Step 1, but there might be additional information given. Films are listed alphabetically by the last name of the ancestor.
