Over a million immigrants came to the colonies before 1820, but few were recorded on passenger lists. Most of the known lists have been published and many have been indexed in P. Wm. Filby’s Passenger and Immigration Lists Index and Supplements. 22 vols. covering 1538 – 1940. This set also indexes published naturalizations and oaths of allegiance. It lists over 4.5 million names. This collection can also be accessed on Ancestry.com, a subscription site.
